BACKFISH: Its Emily

Backfish formed in late 1993 as Backfisch Blue by Katherine
Bergström, Anna Wallmark, guitarist Linda Åkerlund and her
twin sister Nina Åkerlund, drummer. All of the girls were then 17
years old.
In the beginning they rehearsed in a sewing room, crowded
by sewing machines and reels of cotton. They played with The Doors as
models and only one goal: not to play covers! Finally, they got a real
rehearsal room, and a tutor, at the recreation centre Söder.
At this time, they changed their name to Backfisch with
two record companies being interested. A Westside Fabrication got the
deal and later Linda and Nina left the band. David and Elin joined the
group and the name was once again changed, this time to Backfish.
The first demo was recorded in late 1994, and they also
played some concerts, f.e. as warm-up for The Wannadies and 22 Pistepirkko.
In 1997, the debutalbum It's Emily's was released, following the release
of the single Add It/Disco. The album was produced by The Posies' frontman
Ken Stringfellow, who Anna met at a concert in Stockholm. She gave him
a demo, and apparently, he liked it.
